One of my most awaited day of the year. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie is almost here. Here’s what to watch out…
Harry’s fifth year in Hogwarts is here. New adventures await as the dark lord had finally risen to seek revenge over his death. Since Cedric Diggory’s death, Harry’s news of Voldemort’s return reached Dumbledore and rapidly spread out, but the Minisitry refuse to believe. The paranoid Cornelius Fudge of the Ministry of Magic sent a very cruel and abusive new professor in Hogwarts by the name of Dolores Umbridge, in terror that Dumbledore would use the students to make an army against the ministry. Things had flipped upside down til the day came that Umbridge took over Dumbledore’s place as the Headmistress of Hogwarts. Harry went under her cruel hands as well as his friends. Will they ever find their way out?

Am talking about Mr. Pol Medina Jr.’s creation, the “Pugad Baboy”. The Varsitarian (UST’s Official Student Publication) realeased yesterday their BREAKTIME mag featuring some inspiring graduates from the university and Mr. Medina was one of them. He graduated with a B.S. Architecture degree in 1983 and after some crazy turn of events, he’s into comics now. I was a big fan since I first lay my hand on one of his comic books. Nice illustrations and larger than life Pinoy humor. Literally means “Pig’s Nest”, Pugad Baboy was named after a real village in Bulacan that’s famous of it’s piggeries that stinks so bad. Pol started to conceptualize his when he was working back there in Iraq, not to mention in the heat of Iran-Iraq war. It was his dog who gave him the idea of a talking dog character in which he consider as on of his “schizo personalities” and named it POLgas. Medina admitted that all the humor that he illustrated in his comics were not his alone. In fact he doesn’t consider himself too much of the witty guy. Those were from some actual people in real life. From the kolehiyala to the corrupt senator, everything simply exists that makes his works non-fictional. It’s humor touches all sorts of Pinoy life. One of his interesting works was the “Ink & Politics” which covers the chaotic kind of politics there is in the Philippines. Jeez, he’s one heck of a talent that’s very inspiring!
